Yin is a form of yoga that targets our connective tissue, which includes the fascia, ligaments and tendons. The poses are performed with minimal muscular effort and held for 3-5 minutes, which is the opposite of a Flow or dynamic style class. Particularly good for athletes but benefits all physical abilities - yin yoga seeks to strengthen and lengthen tissues to promote recovery and prevent injury. Yin yoga also incorporates Traditional Chinese Medicine to stimulate our meridians for organ health, self-awareness and Buddhist philosophy to bring us back to harmony.
Pilates is a low impact strength based exercise program. The focus is on correct muscle activation and control of both large and small muscle groups including stabilising muscles which can be hard to target through with other types of exercise.
This exercise program is one of the most effective forms of exercise to change body shape and create tone as it targets all the muscles of the body. Pilates is also a great complimentary exercise program for any type of athlete as the exercises can re-balance the muscles around the joints and add flexibility to any strength program.
A fusion of Pilates, dance and fitness! What more can you ask for?! This is a high intensity, low impact, full-body workout that everyone can do from the luxury of your own home. Get creative with your own barre, whether it is the back of the office chair, windowsill, dining table or kitchen bench. Enjoy some special guests in Laura’s classes as there is always something fun going on in her studio!
Use a yoga mat or a towel for all yoga and Pilates classes. From time to time, you may need a yoga block or a rolled up towel for some leverage under your hips and lower back. Small weights may be needed for some barre attack classes, but if you don’t have any hand weights, you can substitute them with tin foods or water bottles.
Bare feet are encouraged so as to find stability in the movements and poses.
